You Won’t Believe What I Found In The Garden!

You won’t believe what I found in the garden today. On a lovely warm Saturday morning I started making my rounds in the garden. Starting at the herb section to discover that a gopher or vole had harvest parsley, chamomile, cabbage, and spinach. Boy oh boy it sure a had a feast on the house. Yep, it pulled them below grown and covered its track. It’s pretty frustrating to build a garden when I gopher comes in helping itself to the line of buffet. Luckily it didn’t take the strawberries.imageimage All that emotions of frustrations and disappointment went away when I saw three beautiful deep red ripe strawberries. I harvested them right away before the birds discover the delicious treasure.

I made my way towards the vegetable garden. Walked along the first row and everything appeared to be fine. Then I made my way to the second tier. Checked on the lettuce and onion box to see if the seedlings have germinated. Moved on to the tomatoe box. A ripe beefsteak tomatoe was in the my view, I thought  “Oh wow” and picked it from the vine. Well, do you ever get the feeling that someone is watching you so you automatically start looking that way?

Well I had this feeling and to my surprise a young garter snake was looking back at me .

My mind went blank and I slowly back away from the area and went inside the house and told my husband.   Of course he was excited and eager to see it.

Telling me its’s a good to have a garter snake in the garden and that we needed more. Some ways yes, I agree to a certain extent, it will solve the field mice problem but, I don’t want my family or I get bit. image

Plus it’s a young snake. Where’s the momma snake? Does it have any siblings in the area? All these questions came to mind.

I guess I have some homework to do. In the mean time, the little snake can have the tomatoes box for right now. At least until I’m done with my homework. Until then, the little guys can just hang out.
